Did you recently acquire property in Walton County? If so, the previous year’s tax statement may reflect the previous owners’ Exemption and/or Agricultural Classification, which is not transferrable. Please remember to apply for property tax exemptions before the March 1, 2023 deadline. Florida residency is required for all personal exemptions; residency must be established prior to January 1, of the exemption year. Available exemptions include:
- Homestead Exemption
- Additional Senior Exemption (income limitation)
- Blind Exemption
- Military Service-Connected Disability Exemption
- Charitable/Religious/Non-Profit Exemption
- Deployed Military Exemption
Agricultural Classification is available to qualifying properties used for commercial agricultural purposes (typically 10 acres and larger). Be prepared to provide proof of bona fide commercial agricultural use, such as income and expense statements, lease agreements, timber management plans and other documents pertaining to agricultural related activities. Applications must be filed by March 1, 2023.
